So...where do I begin? To make a long story short, I helped make a music video for a photographer (Tracey Lee) who wants to attract local artists to have him make music videos for them. How I got into that was very random, but it was a VERY fun and interesting project with which to be involved, and I think Tracey did a wonderful job. Some important disclaimers:
1) This is SO fictional. That should go without saying, since you all know my husband and me, but the video made my mom sad even though she knew it was pretend, so I figured it's best to just say that upfront.
2) It's so fictional, in fact, that I'm not singing and husband doesn't play the guitar (except for one song that he learned to play for me on our first Valentine's day and when he proposed - aw!). The former fact seems outrageously plain to me, but I've had a few people ask me about it, so NO - that's not my voice. Not even close. The latter fact is quite obvious in the video, but I've also had people ask me about that, too. Husband was such a good sport to participate in the first place (he didn't want to) - but he did a great job!
The video is on Tracey's blog - it's the top video on the blog today, but if you go to the link later, just go to the March 17th post. His website shows more of his material, too.

So, you do give your husband coffee in the AM? You didn't mention that was fictional. Although, perhaps it was just cocoa. :)
Fancy you.
I am guessing this is what the vapo rub was for?
I think it's funny that you have to explain beyond: "It's fictional". As if fiction didn't mean "not real, yo!" anymore. :)
It was awesome! I showed it to my kids and #4 was so excited to see his nursery teacher up there. ;)
Hil - HA! Actually, it was just water. :) Yup, that's what the vapo-rub was for.
Cheryl - thanks!! And yeah, I wouldn't have thought I'd have to explain ANY of that, but since I'd gotten asked about the last two, I figured I'd save anyone the trouble of bothering.
Gretel, you're a rock star! Or a country/folksy star. Whatever. It was fabulous! I am so proud of your acting skills! I kept thinking "That's my friend!" And now I get your status message from Facebook about crying on cue. I'd really like to hear the story behind how you got to do this.
Sorry for the excessive use of exclamation points!
Margot, THANKS so much!! I was wondering what you would think especially. :) It all started with Craig's List - I was responding to a modeling ad for a modest clothing magazine back in November maybe, and eventually that fell through, but the photographer that placed the ad asked if I'd be interested in helping him do this video. 80+ emails later (working out details) we filmed it the past two Saturdays.
Hey, cool! Both of you were really convincing. Man, you guys sure know now to look like you're depressed out of your minds! And you'd have sung way better than that if you'd used your own voice!
Aw, Dad!! That's the best compliment I've received on this - THANKS!! I know you're biased, but that comment made me so happy.
And acting depressed WAS pretty hard. At one point in between filming I told Will to say something to make me frustrated, and the scenarios we started coming up with were so goofy I had to start laughing. I was laughing a LOT while we were trying to make me cry, simply because several people were staring at me waiting for the tears to come (after, as my Facebook status noted, Vicks Vapo-rub, onions and eye drops), and it was really comical to me. :)
That was fantastic, Gretel! What a fun thing to do :)
K, so I fail to understand why all the other posters so far have missed the critical detail that so clearly makes this video an absolute fabrication...
Ain't no way you (or any other lady worth her salt, but especially my dear sister whom I know and love) are walking out that door with an itsy-bitsy travel bag! :) I've carried your suitcases before, and it would have taken you multiple trips, even with all the weightlifting you and Will are doing! :)
I'm totally kidding -- well, not really, but I am funning you, then!
My sister is gorgeous -- how about that?! You and Will have definitely found your calling, so we need to track down Milli Vanilli and get you some training and hit the world tour! Wait a minute -- after what I saw, maybe you could give THEM some lessons.
At any rate, ya looked great, Sis, and I thought it was awesome! I can only imagine the number of takes it took to get that much serious out of your fun-loving spirit.
Thanks, Susie! And Joel, you crack me up. I hadn't even thought of that, but it's so true - when I pack, I PACK (Mom taught me well!). However, I've always been able to lift what I pack. :P Thanks for the compliments!!!
